There are rumors that Fr. French, a possible future bishop-elect from what I'm told, was intimately involved in getting Fr. Robinson's faculties yanked. I he ever reads this post, I welcome his correction if I'm wrong, and I will apologize and edit or delete this paragraph accordingly.
But note Fr. French's pearl-clutching indignation:
"Such conduct as Robinson’s has no place among Christians, and we are grateful to our bishops for taking such swift and decisive action to maintain the good order of the Church and to speak with a clear witness."
Of course, French seems either oblivious to or dismissive of the fact that Robinson has answered this rhetorical nonsense of his, and that there is a torrent of support coming from both within and without the Continuum for Fr. Robinson. These supporters have eloquently given their own reasons why "such conduct as Robinson’s” is wholly understood by thinking Christians who fully grasp the issues seen in their historical and theological contexts, and who don’t get their knickers in a twist over something so innocuous and humorous.
This has not gone down well for the ACC, and I think that in the days ahead it may grow even worse for them.
