Though Tolkien called Lewis an "Ulster Protestant", and maybe he was, Lewis' thinking was shaped in large part by the Early Church Fathers and the medieval spirit, so on one level at least he can be called a Catholic.  It's one reason he is so popular with Roman Catholics, Anglo-Catholics and Orthodox.  This fascinating comparison between him and English historian Eamon Duffy, who is Roman Catholic, should not be missed.
